- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup cold water
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
- 1 cup cold water
- (yes again!)
- 3 egg whites
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/3 cup cold water
- (one more time with the water!)
Stir shortening to soften.
Gradually add 1 cup sugar.
Cream together until light and fluffy.
Add salt and vanilla.
Combine 1/3 cup cold water and the cocoa.
Beat into creamed mixture.
Mix/beat a little flour to the mixture.
Now a mix/beat a little water to the mixture.
Alternate beating in flour and water.
End with flour.
Beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
Gradually add 3/4 cup sugar.
Beat until stiff peaks form.
FOLD into batter.
Dissolve soda in 1/3 cup cold water.
Stir into batter.
Mix thoroughly.
Oven: 350 degrees.
Bake in 2 paper lined 9" x1 1/2" round pans
Bake for about 30 minutes.
